On the influence of individual alloy elements and microstructure on the high temperature low stress creep behavior of single crystal Ni-base superalloys. Oliver Horst performs his research in the framework of projects A1, A2 and B7 of the collaborative research center SFB/TR 103. He addresses open questions, which are central to the understanding of the high temperature strength of Ni-base superalloys. First, there is a need to document the influence of individual alloy elements on creep. This requires the processing of alloys with different compositions (e.g. increasing Re-concentrations) and their subsequent mechanical and microstructural analysis. In this part of the work, alloys with different compositions which are produced using the same processing parameters (solidification rate, precipitation heat treatment, ...) will be compared. A second objective of the work is to find out, how different microstructures and, especially, how elements of the microstructure like dislocations and internal interfaces affect creep behavior. The work of Oliver Horst draws on expertise from different fields, including melting, solidification, heat treatment, high resolution creep testing and scale bridging microstructural characterization. The objective of the work is to contribute to a better understanding of chemical and microstructural effects on creep of single crystal Ni-base superalloys.
