Structural Materials

In the group dealing with structural materials, emphasis is placed on the relationships between processing, microstructure and mechanical properties at high temperatures. Particular attention is paid to the role of dislocations during creep and to microstructural softening and degradation processes. Metallic high temperature materials (single crystal superalloys, titanium alminides, tempered martensitic chromium steels, copper alloys) and composites (short-fibre reinforced aluminium alloys) are investigated.
